KNOB-FM in
Long Beach, California, and its creator, Alex “Sleepy”
Stein.
Though the
station only lasted from 1957 to 1966,
it set the standard for all the jazz stations that followed.

attempts to stay true to the sound and the mission of
Sleepy’s operation.
The bulk of the selections are from the 1950s and ’60s, with later recordings of which,
